I just found HOW TO STEAL LIKE AN ARTIST  by Austin Kleon (the book is coming out in march 2012), and I wanted to share it with you guys. Some quotes:
“Kurt Vonnegut said it best: “There’s only one rule I know of: goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
“As Flaubert said, “Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work”
“Devoting yourself to something means shutting out other things.
What makes you interesting isn’t just what you’ve experienced, but also what you haven’t experienced.
The same is true when you make art: you must embrace your limitations and keep moving.
Creativity isn’t just the things we chose to put in, it’s also the things we chose to leave out. Or black out.
And that’s all I think I have.”

Today my teacher asked us to submit our topics for the term paper. So i wrote “art”. she said it’s too broad and told me to be more specific. so I wrote it like this:

ART

  >visual art

    >drawing

       >sketching

           >shading

meaning, my topic was about shading and how it gives dimension to any drawing and should be taught in art classes as part of the basics.

then she said “there’s nothing to write about shading. what is this like shades of colors!?” OH MAN! i think we’re not on the same page. i tried to explain it but she won’t listen. she keeps telling me it’s confusing. then i got frustrated and changed my topic. i wanted to keep the shading idea and tried to agree with her so i wrote “SHADES of Colors” then she said “I still don’t understand. what argument can you make out of that?” I was a bit puzzled with the term ‘argument’ that she used. but I gave her an answer anyway. i said:

“they say that white is a shade and not a color. so does it mean that pink is not a color but a lighter shade of red!?”

then she said that she got way more confused than before and just gave up on me. *sigh* so in the end, i used “BLOGGING ADVANTAGES” as a topic instead.

ok. so i was thinking that maybe my topic was really that bad. Or she just doesn’t understand art and tries to close off her mind.

Day3 of my photoshop lessons. I learned about changing colors.(which, by the way, was cool) I’m supposed to edit some penguins. but I get distracted cuz IT’S A SUPER BALL OF CUTENESS. so I’m sharing the picture before I turned it into something like this:

Day 2 of my Photoshop lessons. so I learned about filters today. Filters are awesome. they’re like the SPECIAL EFFECTS of photoshop. (actually, they kinda are.) I also got to the basics of animation. like how to make a planet rotate and stuff. anyways. tomorrow is a school day. (yes, I’m a student.) so I’m kinda worried about my photoshop lessons getting delayed. That means me-making-cool-pictures getting delayed. (O_o)^

so today, I started learning about photoshop. sigh. I learned about basic stuff such as layers and all. tools were more complicated than I expected. But I got the hang of it eventually. I can’t really make some pictures from scratch yet. hopefully I would SOON. My neck started hurting.. (-A-)/
